Movie: There Will Be Blood Sucks

there-will-be-blood.jpgDaniel Day-Lewis gave it his all in the bland role of Mr.Plainview in There Will Be Blood. There isn’t much of a story to talk about. This movie mainly circles around Oil drilling in early 20th century along with a half-cooked plot diversion about early evangelical christians . The movie seriously lacks any coherent characters and just like the protagonist’s name, it’s very plain, bland, and boring. The climax scene is a true stinker. PTA never made pretentious movies before this one. His movies were coherent and super-layered, but this one is truly an exception. The title of this movie should seriously be, “There Will Be Boredom”. If you want to see decent acting, you can watch it. But, I seriously recommend that you wait for the DVD. If you haven’t seen the Coen Brothers’ latest movie, “No County For Old Men“, please go see it ASAP. You can thank me later. That movie was extraordinary with a story, screenplay, and action that will blow your mind. I am not exaggerating one bit. I think it is the best movie of 2007, and it may very likely be the best movie of this decade.

It seems to me that most of the people who comment at the gazillion sites scattered on the net never bother to actually see the movies they are commenting about. I notice a huge herd mentality among the users of the endless web2.0 sites. Most of them seem to comment just for the fucking sake of doing it. Ignoranuses with their half-assed understanding of Google and its PageRank, always seem to be motivated to write some junk with their site link thrown in somewhere for sure. And, when you have professionals employed for $4/hr by hype creating machines(Marketing Companies) polluting the web, the best way to not be influenced is to pay no mind to the ever present generic/useless comments on most sites . I know I will, at least, from now onwards.

  1. I typed in “There Will Be Blood Sucks” on Google to see if anything would come up, and I found this. Even after hearing so many great things about this movie, I’m still reluctant to believe the hype… especially after so many people told me “No Country For Old Men” sucked, when it did not. It made me wonder if I would disagree with people over this movie as well, so I was looking for just one negative review… As somebody who also considers “No Country For Old Men” the best film made in a long time, I had to wonder if “There Will Be Blood” would take its place (among movie critics.) I would like to see the Coen brothers win something for “No Country,” so hopefully what you say about TWBB is true. Thanks for writing this.

  2. C..Thanks for your feedback. I agree with u that NCFOM is pure genius.

  3. Googled: “There will be blood sucks”
    Found : This page
Result: made me smile and helped me regain my cool after watching that movie

  4. “PTA never made pretentious movies before this one.”

Huh??? I guess you never saw “Magnolia” then. That film is the very DEFINITION of pretentious. A pale imitation of Robert Altman’s “Short Cuts”.

  5. Justin: Magnolia was more about human misery, revealed thru extreme characters. It was a bit cheesy but not utterly pretentious.

  6. Question: When will there be blood?

Answer: Only 2 or 3 f’ing times in a movie called “There will be Blood”… Hmmm something doesn’t add up

  7. Human misery through extreme (cardboard) characters = pretentiousness in the case of Magnolia. Are you saying that “Short Cuts” wasn’t also about human misery?? You need to see it again…

  8. Justin: I will see them both again with an eye for pretentiousness ;-)

Have u seen No Country For Old Men?

  9. Rofl! I also typed in “there will be blood sucks” into google! This movie is such case of The Emperor’s Clothes! “Oh, a crappy soundtrack and artsy-fartsy in depth looks into the soul! THIS IS ART!”

Please. I want the 7 million hours I spent watching this crap back.

  10. What amazes me most is that only one ‘There Will Be Blood Sucks’ pops up in Google and that there are only a handful of responses here. I never would have guessed this movie was made by the same man who made ‘Boogie Nights’ or ‘Magnolia’. Those movies were overflowing with energy & were so rich in characterization and story that I found myself thinking about them for days afterwards. The only thing I could think of after this movie was over is where was the closest exit and could I get any of my money back. I’m afraid a generation of film reviewers who never lived through their own ‘Citizen Kane’ or ‘East of Eden’ are so desperate to be a part a similar history that they seized on the fact that this was a slow, deliberate, virtually black & white movie in a similar vein and decided it was a new classic. But it really and truly sucks. Yes it does. It really and truly does.

  11. Carmen..lets ask for refund from the studio.

  12. dude, the film making alone makes this film a must see. i was rivited before a word was spoken. this film is art. some are comparing it to citizen kane. perhaps not as ground breaking as citizen kane, this is cinematic story telling at it’s very best.

  13. Another blogger who shares his review abt TWBB:

    http://islandmusic.blogspot.com/2008/02/there-will-be-blood-sucks.html

  14. Gawd, I wish I could get a refund, but my boyfriend paid for it; I should tell him to write them, though, hah.

  15. i was yet another who typed in “there will be blood sucks” in a google search! haha, that makes me laugh that so many others had the same idea.

i saw the movie a week ago and walked away feeling like i had wasted my time. and i couldn’t get that awful “music” out of my head! those of you who have seen it know what i’m talking about. the first time you hear it is the opening scene… “RRRRRAAAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHH”

i know this movie was nominated for an academy, but i think we’re staying too far from good films in the name of “art”. just because something is different doesn’t mean it is well done.

  16. I’m another Google arrival with the same keyword :) So I’m in the middle of watching “There Will Be Blood” and it’s nothing amazing… But I found found the sound track such an awkward turd that I had to pause and Google to see if others found it strange. I’m glad I’m not crazy. It’s great music but it never matches events. I actually thought there was something wrong with my player or a defect with the disc at times….

I’ve been really thinking hard to figure out what they were trying to accomplish with the sound track - but it makes no sense. Production error? I mean - tense suspense music for a non-climactic scene. Super exciting music for a boring pan across a desert. Super relaxing music when things actually start happening. It makes no sense and keeps the viewer from getting drawn in. And they use the suspenseful minor dissonant chord SO FREAKING OFTEN it has lost all effect. The whole damn movie seems to be once long suspense chord.. At first I was nervous - but then nothing happened to merit the horror film like chords….

Other than the bizarre soundtrack - it’s okay so far… But I don’t know what all the Academy Award hype was about….

  17. I can’t say I’m shocked that so many of us typed “There Ill Be Blood Sucks” - but serioualy though, it does. TWBB is easily in the top 5 worst movies I have ever seen. The story is terrible, the anti-climatic music is mind-numbingly annoying and the title itself makes no sense at all. Naming this movie “There Will Be Blood” makes as much sense as if they would’ve named Braveheart “Popsicles and Pea Gravel”.

This movie makes Starship Troopers look like Ben Hur.

  18. haha I typed in the same thing (there will be blood sucks) too we should start a support group for the trauma that it induced.

  19. You are correct. TWBB is terrible. I saw it on demand yesterday and now I want my money back. I think somewhere along the way they forgot that movies were supposed to entertain. The best movie I saw lately was “The Proposition” — an Austrailian western. As for “No Country for Old Men”, ehh.. it was OK, but I still wasn’t impressed.

  20. Add my name to the growing list of people who googled “there will be blood sucks.”

It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who came to this conclusion. And what’s with all the dire-sounding music? Every time it started up, it kept making me think something important was going to happen. And then…nothing happened, over and over again.

    PTA, nobody likes a cocktease.

  21. I watched “blood” last night. I can’t believe I spent $20 to buy it. I am fucking miffed. That movie definitley SUCKS.

  22. Thank the lord, some people with brains finnaly agree with me there will be blood was really a horrible let down. i mean sets and acting were good but blah, reaallyyyy long winded he was an oil man i get it.

  23. This was a waste of time. It was a combination between “The Thin Red Line” and “Cast Away” the two worst movie EVER. Give me Dumb and Dumber any day over this crap!

  24. There Will Be Snoring…cause this movie blows. One of the worst movies I’ve seen in a long time. And the music score was even worse, I should ask pay-per-view for my money back.

  25. Cal,

You must’ve been smoking some killer chronic when you watched this bogus piece of shit… ASS-TURD-PIECE. I’ve gotten more entertainment from scratching my nutsack than this movie provided. I was hoping Rambo would show up and put this flick out of it’s misery. Hollywierd id really running out of ideas…and this shit-flick proves it.

    PS… suk my balz …..rules PS3 HAZE

  26. The best way I can describe this movie is to compare it to a person teasing a dog. The person shows the dog a biscuit, something interesting, then says ‘No can’t have it. ‘ This continues through the film, with the dog getting more and more annoyed and the person getting more and more amused with the dog’s annoyance. Then, the person just gets up and walks away, kicking the dog on the way.

  27. This movie sucked so bad. The only reason I even saw it, was because everybody was saying “I drink your milkshake” like it was the greatest scene ever. You’d a thought it was the next “Say Hello To My Little Friend!”

Except, the only blood was from me killing myself after this boring movie. This movie reaffirmed something for me- If it wins an Oscar and gets critical acclaim- skip it, it’s boring.

The only recent movie to buck that trend was American Beauty.

  28. hi guys…
